World Series Game One - Preview

Game One

Opponent: Colorado Rockies

Park: Fenway Park

Pitchers: Josh Beckett (20-7, 3.27) vs. Jeff Francis (17-9, 4.22)

Stat of the Day: Francis is 2-0 with a 2.13 ERA in two starts in the post-season.

Randomness: I don’t have much to offer beyond what I said in yesterday’s
Random Thoughts or in my look at the Rockies.

Simply put, it’s go time. The Boston Red Sox have played 169 games, we know who can play and who can’t, we know who can pitch and we know who can field. There is no reason to get cute now. The Sox just need to play their game and if they execute better than Colorado we’ll be having a World Championship parade sometime in the next ten days. If the Rockies execute better than the Red Sox, then the parade will be in Denver.

Go Sox!!!

No! I won't let you have shot your load already! We need you, Dawg!

For starters (get it?), what are we to make of Francis's ERA? High for the NL, no?

    Oh my God.

    Yeah, make that 172.

Not quite sure why I didn't include the three against the Angels in my math.

    Consider me dumbfounded as well.

Don't worry anonymous, I'm not going anywhere, just not much to add to what I'd previously written.

Francis' ERA isn't that high for the NL particularly in light of his home park. He's a very talented pitcher who is pitching extremely well of late.
